An Excellent Spätlese

2007 Selbach-Oster
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr
Spätlese
Mosel

Spätlese is probably my least favorite Prädikat level.   I’ve had too many Spätlese that are sweet and relatively simple declassified Auslesen.  That is not the case with this wine.  The palate entry and mid palate show a wonderful, creamy citrus flavor that is a bit sour but in a good way.  The finish is very minerally and the citrus flavors echo into a long finish.  This is a wonderful wine and tastes the way I think Spätlese should taste.

I recently purchased this wine at Draegers.  Draegers is an upscale grocery store with locations in Blackhawk, San Mateo, Los Altos and Menlo Park.  They have an excellent German wine selection and frequently stock older vintages.
